In brief Drops Snow

Drops Snow is a thick, single-ply wool yarn made from 100% wool. It’s a great choice for anyone who wants to work with a chunky yarn that makes your project grow quickly on the needles or crochet hook. The yarn has a soft, warm and natural woolly feel, making it well-suited to clothing, accessories and creative projects for the home.
The wool fibres are untreated, so the yarn has not been superwash-treated. This makes Drops Snow ideal for felting, as the yarn becomes denser and firmer after washing. Many people also use Drops Snow for tufting rugs, as the yarn is thick, full-bodied and available in a wide range of colours!

How much Drops Snow yarn will you need?

Yarn requirements always depend on the pattern, size, technique, tension when knitting or crocheting, and whether the project is to be felted. You should therefore always use the specific pattern as a guide when ordering yarn.
Drops Snow comes in 50-gram balls, and each ball is approximately 50 metres long. It is a very thick yarn, so small projects can be completed quickly, but larger projects such as cardigans, blankets and tufted items may require many balls.

A little accessory: 1–3 balls
Take a look at this crocheted basket in a basket weave pattern: Christmas Harvest

Christmas decorations: 4 balls of yarn
See, for example, this knitted and felted braided Christmas heart:
Danish Heart

Hat or headband: 2 keys
Take, for example, this knitted headband with cables: Thistle Twist Headband

Felted slippers: 4 balls for an adult, 3 balls for a child

Felt seat pad: 9 keys
Take a look at this crocheted seat cushion, available in a range of colours: Spring Sun

Adult jumpers: 18 balls – 20 balls (approx. 1 kilo)
Depending on the size, it takes about a whole kilo of yarn to make a jumper like this.
Take, for example, this model of a men’s knitted jumper with cables and a double neckline:
Forest Braid Sweater

And, as always, we recommend that you buy 1–2 extra balls for those really big projects. Yes, we sell the yarn, but! It’s a real shame to be short of that last bit for your big project and then perhaps not be able to get more from the same batch ;)

Read more about washing yarn

Firstly, you should always consider whether the clothes only need to be aired rather than washed. If you decide to wash, here are some guidelines:

  • Hand wash 30ºC - separately - with a detergent without enzymes or optical brighteners.
  • Don't soak the garment, move it gently back and forth without lifting, scrubbing or twisting.
  • Rinse the clothes until the rinse water is completely clear, making sure to keep the water at the same temperature.
  • Spin the garment lightly (approx. 800 revolutions), choose a programme that does NOT take in water when you start the spin cycle. Or gently squeeze the water out of the clothes with a dry towel. Do not wring or roll the clothes.
  • Dry clothes flat in the correct shape and size - do not hang - preferably on a warm bathroom floor or on a drying rack in a room with good circulation, never in direct sunlight.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Never iron directly on the garment. Use a tea towel between the iron and the garment.

Please note: If you want to wash a project that is a combination of this and another yarn, follow the washing instructions for the yarn with the finest/most delicate fibres.
