Drops Air is a medium-weight yarn with a special ‘blow’ yarn construction, in which the fibres are loosely gathered into a thin strand rather than being spun in the traditional way. This gives the yarn a soft, full and light feel, making it ideal for projects requiring volume.
The yarn is made from alpaca, wool and polyamide, and this combination results in a soft and warm yarn with a light, airy finish. Drops Air works particularly well for jumpers, cardigans, shawls, hats and mittens – whether in simple designs, textured patterns or cables. It’s a great choice when you want to knit something cosy and soft, but don’t want a heavy project.

Drops Air yarn is an ideal choice for jumpers and blouses, especially if you want a full-bodied look without the project becoming too heavy. The yarn works well in simple designs, textured knits, relief patterns and designs with a circular yoke.

If you want to knit a soft shawl or a cosy scarf, Drops Air is a great choice of yarn. The yarn feels comfortable against the skin and makes for a light, warm project that isn’t as dense as many classic spun yarns of the same thickness.

Yarn consumption always depends on the pattern, size, gauge and how loosely or tightly you knit.
You should therefore always use the specific pattern as a guide when ordering yarn.
However! As a rule of thumb, you can use the guide below to help you estimate how many balls of Drops Air you’ll need. Drops Air comes in 50-gram balls, and one ball is approximately 150 metres.
Small hangings or decorations: less than a key (use leftovers if you have any)
For example, a classic Easter chick that we knit weighs about 8 grams

Firstly, you should always consider whether the clothes only need to be aired rather than washed. If you decide to wash, here are some guidelines:
Please note: If you want to wash a project that is a combination of this and another yarn, follow the washing instructions for the yarn with the finest/most delicate fibres.
Drops Air is made up of 65% alpaca, 28% polyamide and 7% wool. The yarn has a special ‘blow-yarn’ construction, in which the fibres are loosely gathered into a tube where they are blown. This results in a light and voluminous yarn compared to conventionally spun yarn.
Drops Air belongs to yarn group C and corresponds to 10-ply / Aran / worsted.
The recommended needle size is 5 mm. The gauge is 17 stitches by 22 rows for 10 x 10 cm. Always remember to make a gauge swatch. This is particularly important if you are knitting garments where the size is crucial. And be sure to test the swatch by washing it.
Drops Air is ideal for jumpers, blouses, cardigans, shawls, hats and mittens. The yarn also works well in textured patterns and cables, where its airy texture can create a soft and lively look.
Yes, Drops Air is known for being a soft and airy yarn. It is, of course, always a matter of personal preference, but most people (including ourselves) describe it as soft against the skin and well-suited for clothing. It is therefore a popular choice for large, soft jumpers and cardigans.
Drops Air can be used for selected baby and children’s projects. In particular, hats, cardigans, jumpers and cosy accessories (headbands, etc.). The yarn is Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 Class II certified, which means it has been tested for harmful substances and is suitable for textiles that come into direct contact with the skin.
Drops Air should be hand-washed at a maximum of 30 degrees°C and laid flat to dry. Avoid wringing out or hanging up the wet knitted or crocheted piece, as this may cause the project to lose its shape.
Yes, Drops Air can be felted. This will also affect the gauge of the finished project you have made.
It’s important to remember :)
Gauge before felting: 17 sts x 22 rows
Stitch count after felting: 24 sts x 38 rows
Yes, absolutely! Drops Air is a popular alternative to many types of yarn in the same yarn group.
It is important to check the knitting tension and the length of the yarn. Furthermore, two yarns from the same yarn group may have different appearances and textures, and may also require different amounts of yarn.
