Knitting patterns featuring a mushroom motif for children and adults, including cardigans, jumpers, socks, mittens and pot holders

Mushroom patterns in knitwear – 9 patterns with an autumnal feel 🍄🧶

9 knitting patterns featuring a mushroom motif for children and adults. Discover cardigans, jumpers, socks, mittens and oven gloves with an autumnal feel

Some patterns almost seem to have a hint of autumn about them.
Not in the ‘wet socks in the hall’ sort of way, but more in the cosy sort of way – with warm colours, a forest floor, hot chocolate and a bit of knitting on the sofa 🍂🥰

In this collection, I’ve found nine knitting patterns, all of which feature a lovely mushroom pattern. This little autumn motif recurs across clothing, accessories and kitchen items alike. From cardigans and jumpers to socks, mittens and pot holders.

That’s exactly what makes this collection so lovely. The mushroom pattern is allowed to appear in many different forms, and this gives the patterns a shared look without them necessarily becoming too similar.

You’ll find, amongst other things, knitted cardigans for both children and adults, jumpers for children and adults, socks for adults (including men’s sizes😉), mittens for both children and adults, as well as a couple of knitted pot holders featuring the same charming theme.

Most designs feature a light base in shades of beige, natural or wheat-like tones, giving the mushroom pattern a soft and classic autumnal look. One particular pattern stands out, featuring a dark base that gives the mushrooms a more striking and high-contrast look. That’s how you can play around with the colours however you like 🎨

We’ve also thought about the sizes. Several of the patterns are available for both children and adults, and the socks in the dark version go all the way up to size 46, so even those with larger feet can enjoy a bit of mushroom cosiness too 🍄 (the autumn sort, not the other one🤣)

Mushroom patterns are particularly well suited to autumn knits, as the motif is cute, slightly nostalgic and easy to associate with the season. It isn’t necessarily spooky or Christmassy, just lovely, down-to-earth and a little magical.

If you love patterned knitting, small motifs and projects with a clear theme, this round-up is full of inspiration for your autumn knitting projects ♥️

Autumn knitwear featuring mushrooms

Mushroom patterns are perfect for autumn knitting projects 🍄🧶
The small motifs create a cosy and whimsical look that works well on both large and small projects. On a jumper or cardigan, the mushrooms become a prominent part of the design, whilst on socks, mittens and pot holders they serve as a lovely detail.
The choice of colour has a big impact on the overall look. A light base with warm red, brown or pink tones creates a soft and classic autumnal look, whilst a darker base can make the pattern more striking and graphic.

Patterned knitting across sizes

The great thing about this type of mushroom pattern is that it can be used across different projects and sizes!
An adult cardigan can have the same feel as a child’s jumper, and mittens or socks can be a subtle way of incorporating the design into your wardrobe.
This also makes the patterns ideal if you’d like to knit matching autumn projects for several members of the family.
Perhaps even for a family portrait?

AQ on mushroom patterns in knitting

What is a mushroom pattern in knitting?

A mushroom pattern in knitting is a patterned knit in which small mushrooms or toadstools feature as motifs in the design.

Which projects are well suited to a mushroom pattern?

Jumpers, cardigans, socks, mittens and oven gloves are ideal for mushroom patterns, as the motif can be used both as a central feature and as a smaller decorative detail. But really, the only limit is your imagination.
I’ve been thinking about knitting them into a mug cosy for my travel coffee mug.

Are cable patterns good for autumn knits?

Yes, mushroom motifs are perfect for autumn because they’re associated with the forest, warm colours and cosy seasonal projects.

Can the mushroom pattern be used for both children and adults?

Yes, the mushroom pattern works well for both children’s and adults’ knitwear, especially when the colours and size are adapted to the project.
And, of course, both adults and children can wear this design.
